Sessions held at the Auld Cross Keys Hotel, Denholm, Roxburghshire.
Guest nights are normally held in the committee room of the Village Hall.
Upcoming dates for 2019 are:-
|16.2||DENHOLM BURNS SUPPER|
|7.3||GUEST NIGHT - Jez Lowe|
As Mike Harding said recently, “No-one else writes or sounds like Jez Lowe”, and chances are, even if you’ve never heard the man himself, you’ll have heard his songs, sung at festivals, club-gigs, open-mikes or on CD, by the great and good, the professional and the enthusiast, the young and not-so-young. What higher accolade could a songwriter hope for?
‘Jez Lowe is one of our finest songwriters.’ BBC Radio 2
|2.5||GUEST NIGHT - Tom McConville|
“One of the greatest violinists I've ever heard and by far the biggest influence in my music - A true master”
“Virtuoso musicianship with fantastic singing - an audience wild with joy”
“Magnificent playing and singing. The crowd were ecstatic”
“There are many fine fiddle players but every now and then you hear a player with such humanity and finesse it shines like a beacon in the tradition. Such a player is Tom McConville”
|27.6||GUEST NIGHT - Ian Bruce|
Ian Bruce is one of the best known faces on the Scottish folk scene and a wonderful ambassador for the Scottish singer/songwriter genre, all over Europe and beyond.
His voice has strength and accuracy, his guitar playing is excellent and his songs are beautifully crafted. In these days of amazing instrumentalists and controlled, tuneful singers, Ian is very much a performer to be reckoned with, a gem of the scene who presents his songs with raw emotion, backed up by a joyful and interactive relationship with his audience; a quality so often missing in the current folk scene.

As the calendar pages have turned, for almost a quarter of a century now, this poet laureate of the folk and roots music world has gone about his work with a combination of passion, intent and intensity, and curiosity.
Fusing his insatiable appetite for finding the next unique storyline Keelaghan also forges his pieces with brilliantly defined craftsmanship and a monogrammed artistic vision, making him one of the most distinctive and readily identifiable voices of not only the Canadian scene but as a member of the international singer-songwriter community.

|01.11 - 03.11||Denholm Folk Festival|
|28.11||GUEST NIGHT - Stephen and Pernille Quigg|
“The Quiggs” is a husband and wife duo that has emerged on to the Scottish folk scene in the last few years. Stephen Quigg is a long established folksinger and former member of the legendary band “The McCalmans” and Pernille Quigg, originally from Denmark, is a folksinger and songwriter.
Together they comprise “The Quiggs”.
Stephen and Pernille share a common feeling for the tradition of folksong and both know a good song when they hear it. The combination of songs both old and new interspersed with anecdotes and a touch of humour has received much praise from the audiences and organisers. A concert with The Quiggs is a chance to hear folksong in its simple, yet highly expressive form, including beautiful harmonies and songs that seek the audience's participation.
Start time for the folk club is 8:30pm, and the local nights and guest night are free entry (all welcome – performers especially welcome).
